I see trees of green, red roses too
I see 'em bloom, for me and for you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue, and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, dark sacred nights
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces, of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, sayin', "How do you do?"
They're really sayin', "I love you"
I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more, than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Oh yeah
Of course, all is not entirely well with the world. But these are the graces of today, this one designated day of the year in which we pause to consider and give thanks for our blessings, like (this morning's) pale blue skies, warm harvest moons, sweet potato pie, persimmon smiles, turkey-feathered giggles. And for family and for friends and for you.
To all of You: Thank you for being here—for reading, for contributing, for taking the time. For that I am forever grateful, I am.
Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving.
[I'll be traveling this holiday. And more, I've taken on a short-term project that will demand a good chunk of my time, at least, through Christmas. You may notice fewer postings—including the usual Friday Night Frolic—during the next month, but I will, sporadically, be posting and saying hello to you, as time permits. Be well.]
My Dear Jayne, Thank you for an inspiring post this Thanksgiving morning. Your words seemed to twinkle with smiles and joy.
ReplyDeleteSending my best as you embark on this project. I'm certain it will bring new dimensions of insight to you as I have come to realize that nothing is ever wasted.
I will thinking of you.
Peace & Blessings,
Leah
Much love to you and your family, Jayne, and many thanks for your wonderful, generous blog. Luck to your project too. xo
ReplyDeleteLovely sentiment Jayne.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank YOU for your wonderful writing.
Wishing you all the very best for your upcoming project.
Lucy
What a beautiful post. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWishing you safe travels, a beautiful Thanksgiving and much success in your upcoming project.
ReplyDeleteHappy thanksgiving! And *thank you* for posting this. I have such hapy memories of this song, and you brought them all flooding back. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe're keeping it simple this year, my wife opted out of hosting the huge family sit-down in favor of just our daughter, her husband and the two grand kids. I'm thankful that the rest of the family will be off somewhere else stuffing themselves with stuffing and complaining about all the stuff they complain about.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is shoving the bird in the oven as we speak. My job is simple - make the Mango Cosmos before we eat. I am sooo Thankful.
right back atcha j-girl....lemme thank you for the wonderful writing you have provided and some of the personal insights you have managed to pepper your posts with....the world indeed would be a lesser place without someone like you keeping watch...have a great holiday! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhen you mentioned at my place the other day that you had Louis on your mind, I wondered if this was the song. Certainly fits the holiday, hmm?
ReplyDeleteIf I were singing along, I'd feel challenged -- and would no doubt fail -- to somehow work the words suburban soliloquy into the lyrics. I'm not sure the melody can be stretched quite that far. :) But otherwise, also a good fit!
Thank you, Jayne. Travel well and safely, Frolic when you can, and do resume your REAL schedule (ha!) when The Project allows.
I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove the post...
Thanks All, for your warm wishes. Had a marvelous Thanksgiving in Boston with relatives visiting from all corners of the country.
ReplyDeleteI hope you've all had a warm weekend (it's been beautiful here--not your typical end of November weather) filled with graces.
Leah- New dimensions--I'm hoping!
Robert- We all went out to dinner. Was a treat to have it all catered, though I do love stuffing a turkey and making pumpkin pie. Keeping it simple with Mango Cosmos is even better. ;)
JES- Sweet. I don't know if there's any melody that could support SS. Though my brother did make up a pretty funny song about SS with interesting near rhymes. It was quite the Frolic. And I'd say more about the project but I don't want to jinx myself. ;)
Here y'go: an updated take on "Wonderful World"'s spirit (courtesy of the Trailer Park Troubadours):

I hope your Thanksgiving travels were safe and happy ones.
ReplyDeleteJES- Ha! That is Way Cool! Does she ever love her pooch, eh? Thanks for the link. (And thanks to Trailer Park Troubadours.) ;)
ReplyDeleteSnowbrush- 'Twas a wonderful weekend. Thankfully, Boston is not too far away. Thanksgiving may be my favorite holiday (non of that Christmas stress). :)
ReplyDeleteThat song always makes me optimistic >:)
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
hope you won't be away toooo long Jayne
ReplyDeleteCold- Yes, hard not to smile when listening to Louis singing a great. An especially rosy one at that. ;)
ReplyDeleteDavid- Hope you had a great Turkey Day. I'm barely managing to reply to comments, but I'll get a break soon, visit around, and maybe... maybe write. Need to find a 25th hour to fit that in! ;)
ReplyDeleteReally pleased to have discovered your blog today.
ReplyDeleteI love the old jazz films and this reminds me to look up "Basin Street Blues".
Have a great Christmas season.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This was a very beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful header and blog. GREAT POSTS.

Jayne - How will we know what music we need to hear? I hope your project provides much satisfaction and discovery. It is still a beautiful world, imperfect, populated by all of us being human. I very much agree with what Leah said, nothing is ever wasted. Looking forward to your next post, whenever it appears. Wishing the best to you and your family. xo
ReplyDeleteI missed when this came out. Hopefully you had a grand Thanksgiving. And now, onto Christmas. Enjoy. May you have a peaceful holiday.
ReplyDeletePhotographe- Thank you for stopping by, and for the warm wishes. Oh I love Louis on Basin Street Blues. I grew up with jazz on the hi-fi and took to it from an early age. My parents used to tell me that I was really meant to be born at least a decade earlier--the way I loved jazz so much. :)
ReplyDeleteSusan- I did! It's so good to see you here. I"m happy to know you are back to the blogosphere, and I'll be paying you a visit soon. Your readers have missed you! ;)
ReplyDeleteJules- Wonderful Thanksgiving, yes. Now gearing up for Christmas and I'm beginning to feel the crunch--especially after having taken on extra work. I don't know why I haven't learned by now... ;)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth- Hello, and welcome! Thanks for joining our conversation here. The header is actually still in transition--maybe I'll figure it out after the holidays, but I'm glad you like it. Maybe I'm on the right track? :)
ReplyDeleteMarylinn- LOL! You, dear Marylinn, know exactly what to listen to. I'm hoping by next week, though, that I'll have more time to work on my writing and a Frolic. We shall see... Happy Holidays to you. :)
ReplyDeleteMJ- It's nice to see you here again. I hope you're well, and although I know this special season won't be quite the same for you, I hope you also find much peace this holiday season. Be well. :)
ReplyDeleteWell obviously I am a little bit late to the game on this one, but it still brightened my mood.

I am missing you today. Still waiting for one of those sporadic posts, but hope you are getting much accomplished elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteApologies for being late to the party. I just got to thinking that we hadn't heard from you in a while and wanted to stop and say hello. This is one of my mom's favorite songs, and every time I hear ol' Louis, it reminds me of her being happy. Thanks for that. I hope the holiday season has been treating you well and that Christmas, New Years, and beyond are kind to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
brandon
Happy Christmas, dear Jayne! Take care and see you in the new year!
ReplyDeleteWell, somehow I missed this and I was missing you so I scrolled back. Have a wonderful holiday and wee you when you get back.
