How it works--from Kid In The Front Row:
Let's watch creativity happen right in front of our eyes! I am going to provide the first and final sentence of a short story, and the rest will be created by people in the blogosphere.
Each person nominated will write one sentence, and then pass the baton on to a different blogger. The 9th person will finally link back to here, where we will have a complete story. I have chosen Jayne at Surburban Solioquy to write part 2, then she will nominate someone to do part 3, and so on, and till we return to this page again!
1. Angela was convinced that her pencil was the friendliest pencil in the whole entire world.
2. His hue, alone, revealed his sunny disposition, and with his pink chapeau perched high on his head, the pencil gladly accommodated or cleaned up any Missteps.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10. "That's why I'm the friendliest pencil in the world," screamed Pencil, the pencil.
And the baton goes to Bill of The Authentic Life (who has already kindly accepted his nomination). Have fun with part 3 Bill! ;)

Hey, what do you mean by I don't ordinarily participate in this sort of thing" - what sort of thing is this? Would be intrigued to know.
ReplyDeleteKid- what I mean by that is: anything outside of my original work, what I ordinarily write, for my blogposts. For instance, I don't participate in blog hopping, blog writing prompts, or A-Z type challenges, blog awards (I did at one time, and I'm thankful for them, but they usually require writing something about myself, etc. which takes a lot of time), memes, or the like--only because, between work, my children, and my own writing, I don't have the time to properly attend to "this sort of thing" and don't do it justice. See what I mean? I've got you asking questions! I'm terrible at it.
DeleteThat said, you know I adore your work, and this is a great idea, so I broke this self-imposed rule of mine. And I liked the challenge of writing a sentence in a short, short story. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. ;)
Well, this should be interesting and fun!
ReplyDeleteI think so, too, Rubye! :)
Deletewhen i was in school my "magic pencil" got me into a wee bit of trouble from time to time.
ReplyDeletelol -- was wondering if any of us would be sick enough to take that tack... you win!
DeleteHe always wins!
DeleteHa! Billy, why does that not surprise me? Oh, you could have a field day with this story. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, some writing prompts just don't fit...but others do just a bit of stretching you past your comfort zone and encouraging you to think a new way, express in some new way. I am not an award person anymore either, they seemed cute originally but then seemed like chain letters? I dunno.
ReplyDeletePencils I love. I still have a tough old callous on the inside of my middle finger from where I pressed it for so many years in school, in journals, in letters to friends.
Chain letters--yeah, I think you captured that pretty well, EcoGrrl. They serve a noble purpose, though, and it's nice to recognize our blogging peers this way, but it their unique commerce that I can't quite get straight with.
DeleteYes, the subject pencil here is so young and fresh. Where are the teeth marks. Too friendly for that, I guess. I remember those callouses! Now they're on my fingertips. ;)
I'm intrigued. ILike the idea of a collaborative story as there's no guessing where it will go!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a nice idea, Lucy. You'll have to visit Kid In The Front Row for the final results. :)
DeleteJayne, I think you've managed to strike a good balance with your blogging efforts because your posts are always substantive and your comments are extremely thoughtful, as well. It seems to me that you engage this medium in a very authentic way which brings you satisfaction -- and it certainly enriches the lives of those whom you touch.
ReplyDeleteKeep doing that voodoo that you do so well ...
Thank you, dear Suze. I think we all hope to achieve authenticity here, in our way, with our own blogs. I've been really fortunate to find a generous community of bloggers, all with their own unique styles, personalities and offerings. Makes it a lot easier to be authentic here, or at least to allow ourselves to become authentic. ;)
